About us
Bates Mining Specialists (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1990 under the name G.D.S. Mining (Pty) Ltd. The name was changed to Bates Mining Specialists in 1994. The Company was acquired by the present owners towards the end of 1999.
The company manufactures ‘consumable’ type items, as indicated in our product range, for the mining industry. Substantial contracts are held by Bates Mining Specialists with various Mining Houses. A large number of ‘Standard Stock’ items are being supplied to mines in all areas.
In 2003, following negotiations with Harmony Gold Mine Company, Bates Mining Specialists became a Black Empowered company. Raymond Tinta, a director, acquired 26 % of the shareholding in Bates Mining Specialists. The deal was funded by Harmony Gold Mine.
